Profitable Alternatives To TV

Millions of people in our world today have given their lives over to TV. Watching too much TV has been a problem that I have foolishly inflicted upon myself. I am stepping on my own toes in this article.

Would God be pleased if we spent as much time reading our Bibles as we spend watching TV? Are we loving God and serving Him when we watch TV? Are we loving our neighbors and our enemies when we are watching TV? How strong and healthy would we be if we spent as much time exercising as watching TV? Would our world be a better place if we spent as much time praying as watching TV? Does watching TV bring us closer to our loving Father or is it a wedge between us and Him? Who has more influence upon us, TV or God? Is watching TV what God wants us to do? Is watching TV worth more than pleasing God? Does watching TV do as much for us as God does? Does watching TV satisfy us as much as the love of God? Whatever we are seeking from TV, doesn*t God have something better for us?

Perhaps each of us should make a list of profitable things we can do instead of watching TV. Perhaps we should put the list under the remote control, or better still, on top of it. Read the Bible, pray, do something for someone else, do something for the Lord, meditate on the Bible, do a chore around your home, exercise, ask the Lord what He wants you to do, call a lonely person, take a nap, sing praises in your heart, ask the Lord to control your thoughts. The Bible gives us many profitable things to do with our time. Satan would like to substitute TV for them whenever he can.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Psalms 31:15: My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, (anyone that would lead us away from the Lord) and from them that persecute me.

Ecclesiastes 12:13: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.

Exodus 20:3: Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.

Mark 8:35: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel*s, the same shall save it.

2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Psalms 63:3-6: Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Psalms 77:12: I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Psalms 119:15: I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

Luke 19:13: And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
